ACEMID visits Parliament House

On Thursday, February 29, ACEMID participated in the second Parliamentary Friends of Melanoma and Skin Cancer Awareness initative at Parliament House in Canberra. Co-Chairs, The Hon. Jason Clare MP and The Hon. Darren Chester MP, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, emphasising the collaborative effort to address melanoma and skin cancer issues in Australia. Professor Victoria Mar from Monash University, Professor H Peter Soyer from University of Queensland and Dr Adriene Lee from the Australasian College of Dermatologists conducted skin checks for the ministers.

During the event, joining the above mentioned parlimentarians and clincians, Mr. Craig Lawn, Chair of the ACEMID Consumer & Community Engagement Group, shared his personal melanoma journey, underscoring the importance of improving accessibility to skin checks for the right individuals at the right time. Professor Monika Janda from the University of Queensland and Professor Anne Cust from the University of Sydney discussed ACEMID's research, focusing on technological evidence-based solutions for implementing a targeted, nationwide melanoma screening program.

Thanks to Melanoma and Skin Cancer Advocacy Network (MSCAN) for spearheading the organisation of this initiative. The anticipation is for continued meaningful discussions on melanoma screening involving government, researchers, clinicians, consumers, advocacy groups, and industry stakeholders.
