Thank you to everyone who attended the 2026 Alan Cooper Epiderm Lecture, hosted by the Dermatology Research Centre, Frazer Institute, University of Queensland.
Professor Monika Janda presented the latest evidence on skin cancer prevention, highlighting the significant UV exposure experienced by athletes, officials, volunteers and spectators and the need for stronger sun protection measures across sporting settings. Following the lecture, Professor Janda joined an expert panel comprising of Australian swimmer Mr Sam Short OLY, Dr Justin Crow from the Queensland Academy of Sport, and Associate Professor Simone Goldinger from the Frazer Institute and Princess Alexandra Hospital. Together, they discussed practical strategies to embed sun-safe behaviours into sporting culture, emphasising the shared responsibility of sporting organisations, health professionals and individuals in reducing skin cancer risk and creating healthier environments for all participants.
