Mount Isa Hospital in rural Queensland welcomes its first participant

5 Feb 2024

Recruitment for the Australian Centre of Excellence in Melanoma Imaging and Diagnosis (ACEMID) Cohort Study has started at Mount Isa Hospital in January 2024.

Mount Isa Hospital is 1 of 5 Queensland sites including Princess Alexandra Hospital, Herston Research Imaging Facility, Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Cairns Hospital recruiting participants in the ACEMID 3D total-body imaging study.

The ACEMID 3D total-body imaging system consists of 92 cameras that simultaneously captures nearly the entire skin surface, including curved surfaces in high-quality resolution, and then constructs a 3D digital avatar of the individual to allow tracking of spots and moles over time. We are thrilled to introduce this innovative technology to rural Queensland. Installation of this technology in Mount Isa aims to improve access to research studies and clinical trials for Australians living in rural and regional areas.

While ACEMID has enrolled over 2,300 participants in Queensland already, most are from metropolitan areas and the Mount Isa site is critical to allow people all over the state to participate in our studies.
