The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service in Far North Queensland has become the latest site to receive a Vectra 3D whole body scanner and enrol its first participant in the ACEMID Cohort Study.
Cairns Hospital is one of 15 sites nationwide to have one of the machines, to form an inter-connected centre of excellence in diagnostic imaging of early melanoma across metropolitan and regional Australia. Currently of the 15 sites, 9 are actively recruiting participants, with the remaining to commence by the end of 2023.
Cairns Hospital dermatologist Dr Ilsphi Browne said she was elated to be able to access this technology locally at Cairns Hospital.
Far North Queensland has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in Australia.
