Join us for the 2026 Alan Cooper Epiderm Lecture: Sun Safety in Sport

23 Jul 2026

The Dermatology Research Centre at The University of Queensland's Frazer Institute is pleased to host the annual 2026 Alan Cooper Epiderm Lecture, featuring keynote speaker Professor Monika Janda.

This year's lecture, Sun Safety in Sport, will explore one of Australia's most important public health challenges—reducing the burden of skin cancer through better sun protection practices in sporting environments.

Professor Janda will share the latest evidence on UV exposure, skin cancer prevention and strategies to improve sun-safe behaviours among athletes, sporting organisations and the wider community. Her presentation will highlight how research and innovation can help protect Australians who spend significant time outdoors.

Following the keynote address, Professor Janda will be joined by an expert panel to discuss:

  • The role of elite athletes as influential role models for sun-safe behaviours.
  • The latest evidence on UV exposure and skin cancer prevention.
  • How collaboration between the sporting sector, dermatology and public health can drive lasting behavioural change.

With skin cancer remaining one of Australia's most common cancers, the lecture offers an important opportunity for researchers, clinicians, health professionals, sporting organisations and members of the community to engage in meaningful discussion about prevention and the future of sun safety.

Date and time: 21 August 2026 5:30pm–8:30pm
